Jonathan Holdaway Chartered Financial Adviser Dorset UK

Jonathan Holdaway

About Me

First and foremost, I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) with over 25 years’ experience, but I also trained as a Kinder Institute Registered Life Planner (RLP) during COVID, and qualified in their EVOKE process, which enables my clients to identify and pursue their life goals and values and, as a result, creates deeper relationships with me.

My clients range from busy business owners in their 30s to retirees well into their 80s – and everyone in between.

As one of the first 600 Chartered Financial Planners, having already qualified in 2006 to receive the title, I then went on to qualify as a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and, more recently, as an RLP. Ever hungry to learn new skills and gain further knowledge to enable me to help my clients with more complex financial situations, I am currently studying for the CISI’s Certified Financial Planner qualification and the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP) qualification.

Using all of my knowledge and experience, my aim is to enable my clients to live happy, fulfilling lives without the fear of ever running out of money, even if they suffer disability or death, nor of being the richest person in the graveyard having not met all their goals and objectives.

My Professional Background

Having started in Financial Services straight from school, I obtained my degree-level qualifications whilst working my way up the career path, becoming a Broker Consultant with a major insurer at the age of 21, and then a Financial Adviser with a national financial services firm five years later.

I was motivated to do this because my own father did not seek or receive any financial advice and, as a result, worked himself into an early grave, passing away three days after retiring from teaching.

Over the next 20 years, I held senior advisory roles with a number of financial services companies, including a major bank and other wealth management firms.

In 2019, I moved to Spain with my wife and helped expats all around the world restructure their wealth to take full advantage of the tax jurisdictions they had moved to.

Returning to the UK in 2025, in order to spend more time with my ever-growing family, I wanted to join an IFA that shared my own values of honesty and integrity, as well as being client-focused, with no big targets to meet, allowing me the freedom to do my best work and achieve great outcomes for my clients.

What Drives Me in My Role

I strive to build deeper, long-term relationships with my clients and their families, whilst delivering a financial plan that achieves their current goals and objectives, but which can also be developed over their lifetime to reflect changing circumstances.

I am also a huge advocate of truly independent financial planning and aim to bring this to my clients across Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Devon.

Life Outside of Work

I enjoy spending time with my children and grandchildren, who all live locally, as well as my huge network of friends acquired during my 25 years playing for Bournemouth Rugby.

Having hung up my boots in 2017 due to a serious injury, I now coach the Bournemouth Colts, which I find very rewarding.

I am regularly in the gym doing a HIIT class or pumping iron, trying to stave off the ever-advancing grandad bod!

I also enjoy playing walking football and padel regularly, both of which I discovered whilst living in Spain.

Lastly, I volunteer for the local community group Safeguard Force, carrying out night-time patrols in Bournemouth & Poole, helping to keep local people and visitors safe.
