Lasting Power of Attorney (LPOA)

This is a little known or understood, but extremely important aspect of life planning which is why we want to make this 9-minute video available to as many people as possible.  The video includes an introduction and why Power of Attorney (POA) is important (3 minutes)  before going on to explain when and how to use them.

This gives you more control over what happens to you if you have an accident or an illness and cannot make your own decisions (you ‘lack mental capacity’).You must be 18 or over and have mental capacity (the ability to make your own decisions) when you make your LPA.  Without an appropriate LPOA in place, even a spouse or civil partner can be unable to make important decisions on behalf of their loved ones.

Further information can also be found at https://www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney and we would always recommend that you obtain legal advice when putting such an arrangement in place.

Our message is simple – Everyone over the age of 18 should consider putting a LPOA in place – Please take the time to view the initial 3-minute section of this video journey to see if this may be appropriate to you, your family, and friends.
